My experience has been positive. Given that the machine is an alpha, and
the piece of hardware in question is an ISA modem designed for an x86
system, it worked first time without any tinkering as well as it did with
a good half hour of fiddling with isapnp.conf.
Never having to do that again gives 2.4.x a big plus in my book.
