To set an appropriate locale, go grep in
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols for something that has EuroSign, or use
the snippet Colm Buckley put here some time within the last month
(should this be on linux.ie? it's the second time this month the topic
has come up...) and set your locale to en_IE at euro. How you do that
depends on your distro; RedHat conveniently stuffs this sort of thing
into /etc/sysconfig/i18n.

The doco in question would be the xserver doco. Judicious use of man
and grep tends to turn up all manner of useful information. I don't
seem to have the relevant file to hand at the moment, since I nuked
the doco package off the machine once I was done configuring.

Cheers,
Waider.
