Perhaps I'm missing the point, but you cant really just run some software and
expect hardware raid to be there. The hardware either has raid built in or it
dosent.
AFAIK the E3000 dosent have hardware raid, but Solaris now ships with
Disksuite for software raid, free (as in beer) download also.

Well there are storage devices that Sun sell that do, the T3 array for example.
Right better mention something about linux I suppose :) Veritas Volume
manager is another software raid product that is now available for Linux
though I've heard nothing about it. It works fine on Solaris though :)

Depends on what you want I guess. If you know what the disk is for and you can
set up that environment then try setting up basic striping and mirroring,
striped mirrors and raid5 and see which suits your application and budget
best. If you have lots of disks and your application is realtivly small then
1+0 might be the way to go, if you need the BIG disk but want some redundancy
then reaid 5 might suit best...
