Another book for C programming that shouldn't be overlooked is "A Book
on C" by Kelly/Pohl. It's the standard recommended book for teaching
first year C in both UCG (err... sorry... NUI, Galway) and UCD.

It's primarily about C programming, but it's teaching is based around
the *nix operating system and has a section called "Advanced
Applications" that deals with processes, interprocess communication
and so forth.

I think it's in its 4/5th edition now (I have the lowly 3rd). It also
features a small section on Moving from C to C++, and the newer
editions also have a section on moving from C to Java.

Barry.
