Niall,
You might give Peter Bellew in VBNets a ring (www.vbnets.com) they're
absolute wizards when it comes to wireless and Peter has always been
very helpful...

Subject: [ILUG] Wireless question
I need to look at making a PtP connection between two buildings - our
office and a customers building. I initially proposed 802.11 but wiser
counsels said that the customer wouldn't buy it and so we put in an ISDN
link. But it now transpires that that's just too slow for the developers
so the wireless option has resurfaced. At our side we have our LAN and
at the customers side there is a Solaris box. So I've a very general
question - what am I looking at hardware wise on each side (on the
customer's side I basically have to present as an Ethernet interface)
and what about software - we will have to show security, and I know that
WEP is NOT secure. We'll be running ssh over the link, but I want to
make sure that people strolling by can't connect to the wireless network
at any level. Cost is secondary to security in this application - it's
your taxes will be paying for it anyway :-)
I realise thes are broad questions but I think quite a few of you are
playing with 802.11 kit so I'm sure the answer's out there. And I'll
surely be able to finagle a wireless card for my notebook out of this (
for testing, of course) so I'll be able to join you playing :-)
