Ah!  That must be it.  I had an interesting one where I was exporting a
gnome panel from the server to a win32 box.  that worked fine but, when I
was running RH and gnome on the client box, an attempt to export the panel
from the server would result in Odd Happenings(TM) like the mailcheck
applet which was supposed to run in the server's panel would transfer to
the clinet's panel instead.
