the office_standards list covers this stuff. Its a little tricky to
resolve the big issues (think cats and the herding thereof, and every
project has already enough work to be doing and discussing with others
to make agreement is tedious stuff :-)), but progress is being made on
the ancillary formats.

What problems ? Anyone can use the format, big documents and dtd's at
http://xml.openoffice.org/, did I miss something.
