[ILUG] NIS + NFS + GNOME

I'm setting up a Linux network in my school and have been exprimenting
with NIS and NFS and have both of them working perfectly.
On each client any local accounts are stored in /local and /home is
mounted off the server.
I've set up kdm and it hapily lists all the local and netwrk user
accounts and will log into either kde or gnome.
So far so good. The problem arises when i try to use either galeon or
nautilus. Both of them use GConf - gnome's answer to the registry (oh
how i wish they would just use .conf files like all the other programs).
So when i try and load either galeon or nautilus i get this:
GConf Error: Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error:
IDL:CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0
I also got some errors telling me that ORBit isn't configured to use
tcp/ip.
Any ideas - I might have to wait for GNOME 2 if i cant resolve this -
I'm damned if im gonna just use kde and knoqueror
