ugh, in theory i agree with ronan. caller id is like the telephone
equivilant of ip addresses. anyone with a cordless phone is opening up
their phone number to abuse. plus in a house with more then a single
person, caller id doesn't id the caller. then there are pay phones
(some have data connections), physical access to lines, etc.
plus if more mail clients supported smtp auth in a simple way, then it
would allow people to use the same mail hub whether they're connected
through the isp or not.
however in practice i agree with paul. the fact is that for the vast
majority of cases caller id is "good enough" or at least it's perceived
that way. after all, it's called "caller id" by most people - even
though it really only provides a phone number, not who called.
kevin at ie.suberic.net dante hicks: but you hate people.
fork()'ed on 37058400 randal graves: yes, but i love gatherings.
meatspace place: home isn't it ironic?
