[ILUG] upgrading kernel - newbie

Well, what you can do is patch the kernel source you have currently instead
of downloading the new one.  You can just download the necessary patches
rather than downloading the whole source again.

Then you apply the patch(es) to the source and (I've never tried this part)
if you didn't make clean the last time you'll find much of the objects
won't need to be recompiled as they won't have changed.  I'm not certain of
whether/when it's necessary to run make clean though and I must say I
always do it.
