[ILUG] java compiler

The best Java IDE currently available for Java is by far IntelliJ IDEA
http://www.intellij.com/. A lot of IDEs are going to be nicking
ideas/features from this hardcore app. Sadly you have to pay for it, but you
do get a time-limited, fully functioning demo. No keygens for this one
though as it uses some pretty strong crypto for its keys :)

If you are looking for the next best thing, don't want to pay anything and
especially do a lot of JSP/Servlets and/or Swing programming then checkout
NetBeans http://www.netbeans.org/. There's a really nifty GUI builder for
those VB-style programmers out there as well as a built in Tomcat servlet
engine.

The great thing is that both are 100% pure Java so no Windows vs *NIX hassle
to worry about.
