[ILUG] Way OT: O2 GPRS POP3

Sorry for the off-topic post but since you lot are a bunch of tech savvy 
guys..

I got myself a sonyericsson T68i and am using O2 speakeasy (prepaid) GPRS.
The data account i'm using works fine for GPRS internet browsing but I cannot
access email using the POP3 feature. Whenever i try to use it the phone says
"Finding server" for ages and then "Server not found".

I got on to O2 about it and they emailed me some new GPRS settings. The APN
they gave me is "open.internet". However i cannot even use this to browse the 
internet. I get "GPRS failed" followed by "GPRS parameters not supported".

I rang O2 last night and they said the T68i is an unsupported handset and the
setting may/may not work. So my question is does anyone know what is wrong and
if it will be possible to get POP3 email to work at all?

Once again sorry about the off-topicness. I have scoured the net for answers.
