[ILUG] Printing from a W2k machine under CUPS

I have a little local LAN based on my Linux desktop,
to which is attached a printer (and the internet).
There is a Windows-2000 machine on the LAN,
which accesses the web through the Linux box.

IIRC, I used to be able to print from the Windows machine under RH-7 or 8,
using CUPS but without using Samba.
But it seems that under Fedora-1 I have to use Samba.
Is that correct?
(I'm able to print from my Linux laptop without problem.)

Ps I don't know anything about Windows settings,
and might perfectly well have unset something vital.
Also I think I was probably using NT-4 when printing worked.
