Thats 500fps in a wee teeny window running a basic graphic, in the real
gaming world you need loads a RAM, disk not so important (speed wize), but
the GPU needs to be excellent. Far more important than CPU

I had max 15 fps with crappy looking graphics at lowish resolution,
800*600 AFAIR and 16bit with enemy territory. Tested in doze aswell as
linuso.

It was barely playable but annoyed me. So I threw in the gforce 3 and it
went up to approx 60fps in 1280*1024. Massive difference in game play and
visuals.

(We've had this discussion before methinks)

I still prefer the PS2 for racing/platform quick fix games. Although me
and the kids still fight over what to play ;--)
