[ILUG] Is my mail safe with rsync?

Curious question for you gurus.
Laptop 1 (william) is dying, so I transferred everything to laptop 2 (martha),
using rsync.
Unfortunately I forgot to turn off mail collection on william,
so it has a certain amount of new email.
Can I safely transfer it to martha using rsync?
Are the filenames of the mail items unique?
A typical item in ~/Mail/inbox/cur is called 1081206072.2310.mjCn:2,S
I should say I am using KMail under Fedora-1.
(I tried going over to Mozilla Mail but found it too complicated.)
Incidentally, what does rsync do if it finds a completely different file
with the same name?
Does it just overwrite it?
What would I do without ILUG?
(Don't say, RTFM.)
