[ILUG] NIS problem

I'm trying to get NIS working on two machines. 
One is the server and the other is the client. 
They are both connected through a hub. 
I used the Linux NIS(YP)/NYS/NIS+ HOWTO by Thorsten Kukuk v1.3, 1 July 2003.
I'm using Mandrake Linux version 9.1 operating system. 
The configuration for the server works. 
The configuration for the client works except for a small problem!. 
I followed the steps of '7. Setting Up the NIS client'. 
The problem is that when I try to log on to the client as root it will not let me. 
I can log on as the users I set up but not root.

The error message I get as I boot the client is as follows:
starting sshd: Privilege separate user sshd does not exist.

As I stated above I followed the HOWTO exactly.

Can I fix the problem or do I have to start again and 
is there away to remote log in from the server to fix the problem.
