| Hope noone minds me making a general query on here.
| I just joined recently and was wondering if anyone on here
| is involved in bioinformatics or are you all pure IT guys?
| I use a 10CPU Linux cluster for some of our sequence data
| analysis however we don't use ANY Linux desktop machines,
| I just SSH into the Linux server from my windows desktop.
| I'm not very experienced with Linux at all so am quite
| looking forward to doing the RHCT courses in May as up
| until then if anything serious goes wrong we are kinda
| screwed :-)
there are definitely people who have posted to this list
who, like yerself, use Linux systems in The Real World.
such people are quite welcome --- Welcome! --- and one of
the reasons for this list is to help/advise the “non-IT
Linux community‟. you've found the right place.
having said that, at times this list does sometimes seem
to be the “Administrating Linux Systems in Ireland‟ list;
that is, sysadmins/sysops (IT people) talking shop.
I myself just tend to delete those conversations after a
quick read (to see if there is anything relevant for my
home Linux system). in my inexpert opinion, of a lot of
it is ISP-server-type shop talk, and unlikely to be of
any use to a compute engine (i.e., yer cluster (provided
it's inaccessible to the wild world (from the internet)?)).
if yer cluster does cause issues, before/after the course,
there certainly are people on this list who can help, and
might even be available for hire (e.g., consultant types)
or bribe (e.g., free beer).
finally, may I make one request please?
please learn to break up yer e-mail into lines of at most
60-to-70 characters each; i.e., hit the <Return> key every
so often. (at least when you post to this list.)
many people find e-mail which consists of very long lines (such as this paragraph/line or whatever it is) to be very annoying to read. even quite difficult to read. please accept my profuse apologies for just doing here what I've opinionated not be done: sorry!
cheers!
