Fedora has a graphical boot, started early from sysinit, which runs
an X server at low-res. You can disable it in any one of several
ways:

- edit grub.conf to _not_ pass rhgb to the kernel commandline

- edit /etc/sysconfig/init and set GRAPHICAL=no

- rpm -e rhgb / apt-get remove rhgb

(setting BOOTUP to anything but "color" will also turn off rhgb, but
then it will also disable the colour action results,
/etc/sysconfig/init::GRAPHICAL is probably the recc'd way).
