[ILUG] Broadband venture

Hi,

I am living in a town in the West of Ireland of about 1000 people with a
few surrounding villages. I want to basically get broadband and none of
the usual players are interested. One or two have satellite links. I was
thinking of setting up a system similar to digiwebs/Chorus wireless system
and the local chamber of commerce are very interested. This is at an early
enough stage so far though. I have read the government will pay 55% of all
set up fees for broadband ventures into towns under 1500 people. Has
anyone tried to do anything like this before? I was wondering what walls I
might bump into. I know I would need to put a mast somewhere to transmit
and recieve and then perhaps fibre to a telco.

Of course it would be all linux ran wherever possible! :-)

Thanks for any help.

A dirty mind is a terrible thing to waste.
