[ILUG] slow response from kde apps

Also make sure your kernel is set up properly. I had a similar problem
with was caused by the fact that I didn't have proper IDE support compiled
in and the harddrive was running using PIO rather than UDMA.
Check your kernel config, and google for hdparm.
