Maxtor provides a drive preparation disk that you can download from their
site.
Download it and put it on a floppy. Run it from the floppy and you can then
follow the simple instructions onscreen to prepare the drive.
As far as I recall it is a very simple process, although only available
under windows, as the disk utility is a windows self-extracting executable.

Regarding partitions for linux..
If you intend to use the disk as the only one on the system you would need
more than 2 partitions.

Subject: [ILUG] 200gb drive Help needed

I've just installed a 200gb Maxtor ata133 in the FC1 box (file server).
Picked up by the bios no problem.
Can also be seen in Hardware Browser

What are the recommended Partition sizes in Linux?
I would like 2x100gb if possible. (hdb1 & hdb2)

And most importantly how do I accomplish it
I would need a walk through from the beginning (format etc.)

And so I can help others in the future (Windows ppl),
is there a point & click way of doing it?
