Windows, closed source.
I'd think as a mathematician you'd hold up the principal of peer review, in
this case, Windows is like the Newtonian theory of predicting planetary orbits,
in a blackbox welded shut.
Whoever you bought that blackbox from has to have Einstein working for him, to
fix it when it's broken and the likelyhood of finding that breakage, and
predicating on it logically to come up with new a theory to fix it is diminished.
That's the counter side to M$'s argument about holding onto it's IP.
I'm all for that, good for them, but, force feeding me their broken IP and then
refusing to fix it and in fact milking me for money to fix it?
Hmm.
That's half the reason I use Open Source, Windows, diminishes me as an IT guy,
I'd *never* be able to get the same understanding for computers from a Closed
source or worse yet Microsoft OS, as I would from an Open Source one, where the
only constraint to me learning, fixing, improving or breaking the system is me.

In my case, evangelical hatred of Windows, as a reflex, similar to recoiling
from fire.
I hate that everything in Windows is GUI, I hate that it's slow, I hate it's
closed source, that it's insecure, that I have no choice, but to have to
acknowledge it exists in the business world, when it's a broken product, which
doesn't exist on it's merits, but, on the ability of it's progenitor company to
force it on the World.
If I honestly had the final say in the matter, there would never be another
machine with closed source, bloatware anywhere near me for the rest of my life.
It's a life choice, like voting only it makes a difference to you in practicle
terms.
Like choosing between IIS, which costs money and is broken or
using/contributing to Apache which is free and works.
The only reason to use ISS is that somebody somewhere other then you made a
decision to do so and you can't recant that decision, but, if you could you would.

Runs just fine on my 386DX...
