What I'm saying is that with closed source software nobody really knows that a)
Newtonian physics isn't always right b) even if case a is wrong, those people
can't fix it c) even if those people were Einstein and could come up with
General relativity, it's probably likely they'd never get to see the theory
behind the outputs of Newtonian_algorithm(x) and thus General relativity would
be less likely to have been proposed.
Which follows that Quantum mechanics would similarly be less likely to have
been invented.
If you were Closed_Source_Monolithic_Newtonian_Physics_Evil_Empire(vendor(x));
would you really consider signing an NDA, with a penniless 26 year old Swiss
Patent clerk, which a funny moustache?
In fact, without disclousure and peer review, we probably never got away from
the whole
"The world clearly sits on the back of a giant Turtle" a la Windows FUD,
buzzwords, magic technology and soundbites.
Nothing like a Windows integrated XML parser, to install on your toaster with
Windows CE, running WINFS[1], so that you can trust (tm) that Microsoft will
automagically update your toaster to make your toast the perfect shade of
white, where the actual toasting process may take place after the next (paid
for) service pack.
[1] Expected sometime around the turn of the decade, right after Microsoft is
finished trying to catch up with Oracle, before integrating SQLServer into it's
filesystem...... *doh*.
