Well, I don't drive a BMW, more's the pity ;)

1. VMWare can run pretty much *any* x86 desktop OS.  In particular, I now
need to get a Windows XP desktop up and running for work, so this'd be a
great way to do it.  I don't want to waste money on a second PC when
VMWare is cheaper.

2. for security work, VMWare is ideal, because it allows you to backup and
roll-back an entire machine's state, efficiently, using deltas. So I can
make a backup, install some malicious code and examine it, and then roll
back to a known non-compromised state.  It makes a fantastic "goat"
machine in other words.

3. I'm also a big believer in virtualisation as the new interesting
frontier for software... see #1, #2. ;)  I'm not sure how much nifty
virtualisation stuff VMWare 4.5 has, but I want to keep track of it.
