I dont see why write-back caching is a SATA problem. (unless one
counts fact that SCSI market is stagnant and lagging in terms of
drive density). There seemingly was a trend for a while for IDE disks
to silently implement write-back caching, which was a bit evil, worse
not honour disabling of write caching. But there's nothing wrong with
it if it can be either disabled, or has proper barrier support
(which, AIUI, SATA does).

I cant think of a single reason why. Even more so when you consider 
price difference of the disks.
