> Hi All,
> I have been asked to put together a sizing matrix for Linux Servers. Since I only have experience on the Solaris and HP-UX, I dont have alot of experience on the Linux PC Platform. So can anyone assist me please. I need a rough guide for the following:
> 1. Small office Linux server to be used as an email and firewall server
Doesn't need much for basic stuff. If you're going to run lots of mail
filters (like spamassassin) and have lots of large attachments, you may
want to go bigger. Whatever the basic Dell server box is will do this
without trying (though give it a reasonable about of RAM..)
> 2. A development server for porting applications from Solaris/HP-UX
Depends on the project IMO. If it can be parallelised, then a multi
processor box, or a couple and distcc. If not, then the faster one you
Say a Dual 3G Xeon with enough RAM to work.
> 3. High Database server (Oracle) to support up to 100 concurrent users.
Might as well ask Oracle.. If it was mysql it'd run on a 286, but oracle
will have a better idea of how big you need for their lump of code.
