[ILUG] What issues are there with dropping a 2.6 kernel into a 2.4 system?

Hey all,

I have a RedHat 8 box with a 2.4.20 kernel.  This particular kernel is
causing resource starvation (the kscand issue with the bigmem kernel).  

Is there any issue with compiling the latest 2.6 kernel and dropping it
in?  I.e. are there any glibc or other critical dependencies that would
prevent me from doing this?
