[ILUG] Eircon DSL - A word to the wise

Talking of Eircom ADSL,
did anyone notice a problem late last night?
Something with DNS, I think -
I couldn't get past eircom.net .

Incidentally, when I tried traceroute anywhere
I got the first 2 sites at once,
then there was a wait of about 10 seconds before the 3rd and 4th came on,
and nothing after that.
But what puzzled me was that the times in the 3rd and 4th sites
were reasonable - 50ms or so.
Why weren't they much longer, since there was a 10s delay?
