Thank you to everyone who made suggestions on how to solve the server
slow down problem.

I have learned a lot from following the advice/observations/instructions
that were given both on and off the list.I feel I have a bit more
understanding of what is going on on the machine.

For better or worse the problem simply disappeared this evening without
me finding out what the cause was.
