Well, I'm more of a KDE person than a Gnome person, but I can still
help, I hope with a simple pointer to

To get you started, d marks the current mail for deletion, s saves the
current mail to a folder (and marks it for deletion), and q quits, at
which point you'll be asked whether to purge deleted messages or not,
and others are kept.
