I don't think tou're even getting to the grep code there.
Do an export LANG=C before grep just to be sure you
exclude all the new i18n stuff.

Versions of kernel, glibc, grep would help.

Also download the grep source and compile
a debugging version to step through if it
is in fact a grep bug.
