[ILUG] pop3 or imap for internal mail server?

I've tried a few different servers over time, I keep going back to a qmail
plus
courier imap setup as per http://www.qmailrocks.org. The main reason I use
it is
due to that site. It makes installing it a doddle (for the most part you can
copy
and paste the commands from the guide into the terminal)

Subject: [ILUG] pop3 or imap for internal mail server?

I want to set up a little mail server on my desktop
which will allow me to get email on my laptop
(or other computers on my home LAN).

At present, my email comes to /var/spool/mail on my laptop.
I'd like to change this to /var/spool/mail on my desktop,
and then get the email from there.

I've been looking at cyrus-imapd for this purpse,
and installed it (under Fedora-3),
and it works as far as running imtest on the laptop is concerned.

But I've been looking at the imap/imapd documentation,
and I'm wondering if imap is a bit over the top for my purposes.

Actually, I don't understand the documentation -
in particular, I don't see where one tells imapd
where to look for email (in /var/spool/mail , in my case).
"man imapd.conf" gives what seems like an infinite list of options,
with no indication of which might actually be used by normal humans.

Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.
