Well, Asterisk + PC + line hardware == PBX so, yes, it is possible for 
you to build your own PBX. However, the range of line cards which 
Aterisk supports is limited ( 
http://www.asterisk.org/index.php?menu=hardware ) and I don't think 
equinox multi modems are supported - unless they are compatible with 
some of the other items listed.
