Hey Justin,

Perhaps you could try out Libranet. They provide a customized version of
Debian testing. It has XFree 4.3 and and other upto date packages for
KDE and Gnome etc. that aren't in the official Debian trees. 

You can also add the Sarge sources to your apt repository and keep upto
date with packages in Debian testing. 

I found it to be a great Debian experience without the pain we both know
can come from the offical versions of the distro.
