Something is borked. MDK10 and 2.6 are indeed faster, well 2.6 is faster
anyway. I was using gnome exclusively up till one of the kids moved the
top menubar to the side - resulting in gigantic icons a quarter way
across the screen (anyone know a solution)
I then changed to kde amd that works as fast if not faster :-)
On a side note, I can also rinning lookingglass from Sun, and still no
slowdown - even though they specify 512NB as a requirement!
(I'm using 1700XP, 256NBm MDK10 - Currently running 2.6.7)
The default kernel from ndk10 is 2.6.3something, so check uname -r.
I would start by doing all the updates via urpmi, see how that goes.
If that still goes crapm & if its only a workstationm then why not
install afresh?
Please excuse my typos as I am using a german keyboard due to spilling
beer on my normal one :--)
