A little _more_ googling, and catching up on this thread, reveals that
we really don't yet know the chipset, because you haven't told us either
that detail or the US Robotics model number.  Would you mind furnishing
one of those?

It seems that USR uses multiple wireless chipsets.  Different chipsets,
different solutions.
