Yep, very recent, at that, and the side-effects are not yet known,
as these things take time to play out.
Compare UCB's totally free release of BSD UNIX back in the 70's, and the
effects of that, with the current focus on patenting innovative ideas
developed in university research... who knows what the side-effects of the
latter will be in 20 years time?
