I have to tell you, for starters, most combo printer / copier / scanner
devices are awful, and pose nasty driver problems. That seems to be
simply true as a general observation, but I'd speculate that the
underlying reason is that the manufacturer is so desparately trying to
hit a low price point that he tends to fall back on software-dependent
chipsets, e.g., winmodem/winprinter ones.

Anyhow, basically you've set yourself the problem of determining what
print filter ("driver") can get good results with the USB printer
portion of this thing of yours -- if any. I think you're going to have
a difficult time. http://www.linuxprinting.org/ has nothing on it --
which is rare. I'll bet it's a new model, isn't it?

With luck, the printer portion of the device will turn out to be
software-compatible with one of the older Lexmark printer-only models.
So, one approach that might work is to look at the list of _all_
Lexmarks (http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi?make=Lexmark)
and jot down what filters they use, then work through that list,
test-printing with each of them to see what works.

Or, you could ask in one of the linuxprinting.org Web forums / mailing lists
(http://www.linuxprinting.org/forums.cgi) and see if anyone there knows.

On the mailing list for Lexmarks, someone with a similar problem got
told to try this manufacturer-issued "z55" filter for CUPS:
http://www.lexmark.com/US/products/info/linux/sample_v2.html
Someone else said the "z600" filter. That's from a thread in:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/pipermail/lexmark-list/2004q2.txt.gz

Good luck.

Cheers, The cynics among us might say: "We laugh,

rick at linuxmafia.com MuaHaHaHa!" but that would be rude. -- Jim Dennis
