OK, try the following on the server first:

# rpcinfo -u localhost ypserv

It should reply ready and waiting twice. 
If not, then there lies your problem / Or Solaris 
has a different syntax :)

Redhat / Fedora distros come with a handy tool for setting up ypclients
# authconfig
Enter the details for the server, exit and try to ypcat or ypwhich.

p.s.: you might want to set the hostname to something other than
"localhost"
