Another relevant point might be the geographical location of servers. If
some gmail servers are hosted in Ireland, they may be prone to the data
retention laws coming in here, if hotmail servers are hosted in the US
they may be prone to the Patriot act there and so on. So, depending on
location your mail may oi may not be prone to seisure at the arbitrary
unfounded whim of an investigator.

I think hushmail still have a Dublin office though, so that probably
says some things about the law in Ireland.
