Odd.. usually the initrd would take care of loading modules required 
for accessing local disks.

See man mkinitrd, or mkinitrd --help.

A quick fix for the emulex problem is to just put 'modprobe <emulex 
module>' in /etc/rc.d/rc.local, or specify --with=<emulex module> to 
mkinitrd.
