Thanks very much for your suggestion.
I notice that the port is set to 147,
which seems to correspond to IMAP protocol.
I get no response on telnetting to this port,
thougth I do when telnetting to 109 or 110.
Does that mean I should be using POP?
I had the idea most mail-servers nowadays
allow one to use either?
(I confess to great ignorance on this as on many topics.)
I changed the protocol to POP, and this is using port 110,
but I still get the same error in mozilla-mail,
although I get the following telnet response,
which seems healthy:
Script started on Sat 13 Mar 2004 13:31:32 GMT
[tim at william tim]$ telnet mail1.eircom.net 110
Connected to mail1.eircom.net.
Escape character is '^]'.
+OK <31326.1079184705 at mail1.eircom.net>
-ERR authorization first
[tim at william tim]$ exit
Script done on Sat 13 Mar 2004 13:32:36 GMT
As ever, any further advice or suggestions gratefully received.
