Yes, I did have something like that before.
But if the user does a 'list_lists', or looks at the list-overview web
page they will still see the incorrect list name, no?

Yes, but you're a Unix software developer :)
There's definetly more options, and I think some clarity has
been lost. IMO without a FAQ to the users, they would be quite
lost...
