more responsive <=> less throughput.
The default scheduler ticker is now at 1000Hz instead of 100Hz for 2.4
and there are prememptive changes that again will have an
effect on throughput.
They are still tuning things though, so you may want
to try something more experimental like Andrew Morton's
tree or be really bleeding edge and try something below that.
From a scheduler/vm point of view the hierarchy I think is:
