Yast handles these items by either configuring your system to use DHCP 
(not the case here) or by soliciting information from the user, and 
plugging it into the appropriate system configuration files. If the 
user doesn't provide Yast with the information, it can't do what it 
should.

It does that. Just press ^C (that's control-C) to stop it.

results of "ping 193.1.31.98". That is an important distinction which 
is relevant to your problem.

As mentioned . . . .

This illustrates that your networking as such is setup just fine, in 
that your machine can reach the world.

This is because of the aforementioned meanness to SuSE / Yast. Rerun 
Yast and enter the name server addresses which I am sure you have been 
provided (you entered them in Windows, after all) in the appropriate 
places and all will be sweetness and light.

As mentioned, Yast generates a number of system files. This is one of 
them. But if you don't give it the information it needs, it can't 
generate the files.

I might sound like I'm harping on here but you enter the exact same 
information as you entered in the same place in Windows. Irish 
Broadband provided you with the IP addresses of at least two name 
servers. Enter these in the appropriate places in Yast.
