Looks exactly what I'm after. This is a one-off project and so it's a 
big advantage that it all comes in a nice enclosure, with a power supply 
and no special dev kit.
I've found more info about WRT54G wireless router too and LEDs are 
controlled by GPIO so there are at least three easy outputs there, and I 
get a wireless LAN thrown in.

This was on the go as I did the first project a few years ago, but 
expense and hassle factors put me off. They seem more for general 
purpose embedding or where the requirements are more complicated than mine.

I haven't been keeping up with HA, but this is essentially what I have 
already. A chain of 7 x DS1820 temp sensors, HAI serial port controlled 
thermostat, pico web control of the boiler and valves, and a perl cgi to 
display and control it all. This new device will add actuated valves on 
the floor heating manifold.
