er, I am not sure whether you want to develop the
hardware your self ? 

the method depends on how many I/O's you want.

you could use the following as a guide for interfacing
to hardware.

.. if you want to use more then that is suppilied by
the io of the parellel port then youll have to use a 
mux and demux (multiplexers pc encoding, hardware
decoding ) or some form of microcontroller (v.complex)

the advantages is that you would get more options over
controll, but it would take a good bit of time to
desinge, and protot for a novest.
