[ILUG] httpd/apache under Fedora-3

I've been trying to set up httpd on my desktop,
but cannot access any files from other machines on my little LAN.
I get the "Fedora Core Test Page",
which I assume shows httpd is working,
but bbbbbbbbbbcannot access any files in /var/www/html ,
which is where I used to put such material.
It simply says it cannot find any files I name.

My recollection is that there used to be a file /etc/httpd/conf/access.conf
but that seems to have disappeard if it ever existed.

I looked through some of the (excessive) Fedora httpd documentation,
but it all seemed to assume that one is running SELinux, which I am not.
(There are enough problems in life without inventing new ones.)

Also I don't see anything relevant in /etc/httod/logs .

I have 'DocumentRoot "/var/www/html"' in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
and the directories on the way all seem to have reasonable permissions.

Are any of you ILUG gurus running httpd under FC-3?
If so, I'd be very grateful if you would hold my hand through the forsst.
