This is a reminder that the Annual General Meeting of the Irish Linux
Users Group takes place next Saturday, October 16th, starting at 14:00.
The Irish Computer Society has kindly allowed us to use the seminar
room in their premises in Mount Street (
http://www.ics.ie/main/contact.htm ). Besides carrying out the normal
business of an AGM which consists of officers reports, discussion and
voting on any proposals made, and election of a new committee, there
will be several interesting technical presentations.
If you have any thing you wish the ILUG to do specifically, please
submit proposals in advance to committee at linux.ie so that we can have
them on the agenda for the AGM.
The technical presentations this year are :
* An Introduction to Asterisk, the Linux VOIP System *
Presented by Martin List-Petersen, this will have live demonstrations
using some of Martin's gateways - bring your wireless notebook and you
can even join in. This will be an ideal opportunity to get a leg up
Asterisk's steep learning curve.
* Introduction to the Schools Broadband Project and a proposal for a
cool
project *
Presented by Brian Scanlan of HEAnet, this will talk about his work
setting up the Schools Broadband Project which is planned to provide
broadband to every school in the country. And the cool project? Well,
you'll just have to come along to hear Brian talk, won't you?
* Network Service Delivery with Linux *
John Looney of Hosting 365 will talk about how H365 uses Linux systems
with software such as Quagga & IPVS to deliver network services to
Hosting 365's customers.
ILUG is YOUR organisation, so this AGM is for YOU. If you want to
fundamentally influence where ILUG goes over the next year, the AGM is
where you need to be next Saturday.
We'll have various freebies too - Linux CDs, beer vouchers, who knows
what - as prizes for interesting questions and for whatever other
reasons so you might even come out ahead on your busfare.
The AGM will be followed by a social gathering in a local hostelry (TBC
- we've had one or two suggestions so far viz. The Schoolhouse, Oilcan
Harry's, The Grand Canal Hotel. If you want to vote for any of those,
or have another favourite in the area, let me know. Ideally we want
somewhere which does food, and also where we can reserve some space).

P.S. Years ago, I compiled a Linux quiz for an AGM and it was well
received. I was asked would I be doing one this year but frankly I just
won't have time. If anyone would like to try their hand at that, please
let me know. Quality prizes could be provided :-)
