It has a steap learning curve and is probably most geared against people
that have a high interest in something like that OR want to build
solutions on that.

If you want something simpler, there are other, but not that advanced
projects.

It's a question of what you want to archieve. Once that's defined, you
will have to look if Asterisk is necessary for that.

Sure, but they would usually not show up to such events. It is the
exception, as I've seen it.
